Hip New Jersey’s Lisa Marie Latino sat down with playwright, novelist, screenwriter, and now nonfiction writer Sue Trauth to talk about her new book “Show Time!”
Trauth is a New Jersey native and former Montclair State University professor within the theater department. She has written several plays including, iDream, Katrina: the K Word, and Midwives, which was developed at the Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey Emerging Women Playwrights program.
Published this month, “Show Time” is the first of three books in her Dodie O’Dell mystery series. The non-fiction book is classified as a “cozy mystery” staring the protagonist Dodie O’Dell. The story travels throughout O’Dell’s life as she moves to Etonville, a small fictional North Jersey town after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. She works as a restaurant manager as well as helping out the theater next door. Mayhem erupts when a man is murdered and O’Dell must solve the mystery before the show can go on!
Trauth’s love for theater shines through in the series as a different play is highlighted in each book with “Show Time” featuring Romeo and Juliet. “I’ve spent decades doing theater and doing different aspects of theater and I thought well, this is kind of fun,” Trauth explains.
