If you think you’re a pro at cornhole, then you better start getting warmed up since you’ll have the opportunity to put your skills to the test! Thanks to the efforts of former Rutgers Scarlet Knights defensive tackle Eric LeGrand, the first Eric LeGrand Cornhole Tournament will be hosted on Saturday, August 3 in the parking lot of the Woodbridge Center Mall at 9 a.m.
The price to play is $30 per person and the proceeds from the tournament will be benefitting the Team LeGrand of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, an organization that raises money for research to find a cure for paralysis, while also helping improve the quality of life for people with spinal chord injuries.
As many people know, LeGrand was a standout football player for Rutgers before he suffered a catastrophic spinal injury in 2010 when attempting to make a tackle against Malcolm Brown. While LeGrand was given a zero to five percent chance of regaining neurologic function, he regained sensation in his body and feeling in his shoulders. Since then, he has been an advocate for the cure for paralysis and has inspired countless people along the way.
This cornhole event will also mean even more for LeGrand since it will be taking place in his hometown of Woodbridge, New Jersey. LeGrand wanted to have a competition of something that everyone can be involved in, which is why cornhole was a great option for the organization to provide for people.
