#HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino spoke with Kerry Barrett, former anchor, reporter, and producer of WNBC in New York.
After spending almost 20 years in the TV news industry, she decided to start her own consulting agency 6 months ago, where she provides individuals and groups with the resources and information they need to enhance their public appearance.
She currently has a small client group, however it is fastly growing and making real gains. Surprisingly, she has attracted clients in the finance sector, which she states is due to them wanting to change their websites to video based content. For instance, instead of text bios for their team members, they want to do a video bio.
Kerry Barrett helps figure out what their best messaging will be and she moderates what they will say. She teaches them the basics such as how to do their hair and makeup. She also gave us some tips including; not moving too much when on screen, no crazy hair or wild makeup, try to wear colors that show differentiation, and to be energetic. Being on camera, you want to show your true self and your energy will help get the message across.
Although Barrett loves this new business she is in, she does miss the people she was surrounded with as she was constantly learning from them. But now, she has found a network of women who build each other up.
