Happy August! Sadly, it’s the last month of summer but also the best month to pick New Jersey peaches! Just in time to mentioned in the #HipNJ weekend recap! This Saturday kicked off the annual Peach Festival and Country auction in Chester, hosted by the Community Presbyterian Church! The peachy goods that were featured included pies, cobblers, jams, turnovers, kuchens, homemade ice cream and more!
The festival encouraged folks to donate goods to auction off in the weeks leading up to the event. If folks weren’t in the mood to auction, the White Elephant tent offered toys, games, sporting goods, books and other great buys!
Check out more info on the festival here and try to check it out next year!

There’s still good in the world, especially in the Garden State. In South Jersey this past weekend, over $60k was raised to keep a man from losing his childhood home in Gloucester Township, thanks his loving neighbors! Lamar Harris, who happens to be disabled, was at risk for his Cherry Circle neighborhood house going into foreclosure. His neighbors have been keeping an eye on him, since he has lost his family and now lives alone.
After finding out that Harris received a legal complaint due to unpaid taxes, since his father’s death in 2015, his neighbors couldn’t just sit back and watch his lose it all. Thus, they started a Go-Fund Me page to help raise the money.
According to the Go-Fund Me page, Harris has always helped around the neighborhood, helping pick up trash, walking dogs and cutting grass. The Go-Fund Me wound up raising all the money needed for Harris to keep his house! All the donations that he continues to receive will be applied to Harris’s future and current needs, with a bank account set up for him!
Other cool events that took place included the Bon Jovi laser show in Branchburg, Model T Ford Day in Morristown and the NJ Sussex County Fair in Augusta, which is going on until the 10th!
Let us know any upcoming events or stories to be featured on the next #HipNJ weekend recap!
