For this week’s #FoodFriday, Christine Allen, founder of Mo’Pweeze Bakery, spoke with #HipNJ’s Maria Falzo on her delicious baked goods.
Mo’Pweeze, located in Denville, NJ, specializes in allergen-free and vegan treats. They sell cakes, muffins, cookies, breads, donuts, etc. Mo’Pweeze’s products are free of dairy, nuts, gluten, eggs, soy, tree nuts, sesame, fish, shell fish, and mustard. They even accommodate for other food allergies, like rice and corn.
They want their customers to be able to enjoy their baked goods, no matter their allergy. “It becomes a challenge,” Allen said, “but we love the challenge, and we don’t put anyone in a box because everyone’s an individual.”
Allen’s son inspired her to create Mo’Pweeze. When her son was turning two years old, he had 12 food allergies. When preparing for his birthday party, she searched for a bakery that would accommodate his allergies. When she couldn’t find one, she decided to bake something herself. She used her sister’s banana bread recipe but excluded all the allergens. The kids at the party loved the allergen-free bread, so she decided to move forward with this idea. Allen’s son currently has 30 food allergies.
The most popular baked goods of Allen’s is her unicorn cupcake. This vanilla cupcake with fun colors for the icing adds flavor and trendiness. Her triple berry cupcake is also a hit! With raspberry, strawberry, and blueberry as her main flavors, she says her customers love it. Lastly, her chocolate cupcake with mint frosting and mint chocolate chip will just melt in your mouth!
Mo’Pweeze products can be found at ShopRite or your local Whole Food’s store. To learn more about Mo’Pweeze, visit their website at www.mopweezebakery.com.
