This month’s Hip New Jersey Fabulous Female is Nikki Vega of West Caldwell. Nikki is a mom of two teenagers, a work from home mom and is a successful travel agent. On top of all this, Nikki is valiantly fighting lyme disease, and works daily to spread awareness about this disease. She is emotionally, physically and spiritually one of the strongest women I’ve ever met.
Nikki graduated from High School, and shortly thereafter had her daughter Alyssa who’s now 17 years old. Like many, she struggled being a single mom. Several years later she met her current husband Jon (aka her Knight in Shining Armor) and they had a son. Nikki’s son Alex is 13 years old. You can imagine that with two active teenagers Nikki is nothing short of busy.
In an effort to take care of her kids, but also provide for her family, Nikki decided that working in the medical billing field would suit her best. Working from home gave her the ability to be present in her kid’s lives, attend all of their activities, but still earning a living.
Several years ago, since her kids where older, Nikki decided she wanted to get back into fitness. Always up for a challenge, Nikki decided to join Powerhouse Gym, in Hackensack. While working out at the gym, some of the members where organizing to participate in a Spartan race. Nikki figured this was the best way to continue to challenge herself and she signed up for the race. After completing the race she didn’t think she would ever want to put her body through that torture, but one year later she was back at it! After that she was hooked, and was doing multiple races per season. In a span of two years she participated in about 20 races.
In 2017, she started feeling off. She thought she was over training, and initially didn’t think anything of this. That feeling in her gut wouldn’t go away, so she went to various doctors to understand what was going on with her body. After being misdiagnosed with so many things, she took the initiative and started doing research. After extensive research, Nikki knew that she had lyme disease. She went to her functional doctor who tested her and confirmed her suspicions, and suggested she go to a lyme specialist.
While most people would resign themselves to the fact that they have this debilitating disease, Nikki is not that person. Despite all of the treatments and the toll this takes on her body, Nikki loaded more on to her plate.
About a year ago, Nikki knew she wanted a vehicle to be able to take her family on more vacations. Her philosophy is that she wants to be present for her children, not buy them presents. It’s important for her to make memories with her family. She also wanted a way to earn additional income, so being that she’s always had a passion for travel, and was the go to person to help her friends plan vacations, starting her own at home agency just made sense.
Nikki quickly rose to the top, earning top sales, as an independent agent. This is because she’s not your typical travel agent. She essentially makes her self-accessible to her clients what seems like day and night.
I asked Nikki how she’s able to juggle and manage everything. Like many hustling women these days, Nikki is #nevernotworking. She told me that her husband is a God send, and her biggest support system. He helps a lot with the kids, and being that one of Nikki’s strong suits isn’t cooking, he handles all of that. I also may have heard that he loves to clean (specifically vaccum)!
Since Nikki specializes in booking all-inclusive vacations, Disney, Universal, Cruises and Honeymoons, I asked her to give me her top three locations. She says Disney, Bahamas and Mexico are the most fun, affordable and family friendly places she’s booked. If you’re looking to book a vacation check Nikki out on Facebook at Magical Moments Vacations or on Instagram at @nikki.vega_ You can also follow some of her fitness journey, and educate yourself on lyme on, @fit_with_nikki_v. I can say that I admire Nikki, and all that she does, and she is a true role model on how never to give up!
