Beth Nydick – certified health coach, founder of Blue Barn Kitchen and author of Clean Cocktails – came to the #HipNJ studio to make some Thanksgiving cocktails for Maria Falzo.
The two drinks Nydick prepared were a Time to Take for Yourself Toddy and a Red Ruby Rosemary.
Nydick described her Time to Take for Yourself Toddy as a “clean” hot toddy. It doesn’t have a lot of sugar in it, and it’s a good drink to have with friends and family before dinner. She prepared this bourbon-based drink using hot water, maple syrup, cinnamon, red pepper flakes and lemon juice.
“You always need a little lemon to brighten up whatever you’re drinking,” Nydick said.
She described her Red Ruby Rosemary Cocktail as a drink to have during or after dinner. She prepared the Red Ruby Rosemary Cocktail using ice, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, gin, salt, honey syrup and rosemary.
“Rosemary is such a good Thanksgiving herb. You’re cooking your turkey with rosemary. Rosemary’s cleansing; it’s got a lot of antioxidants,” Nydick said. “It’s also really good to rub in your hands, that smell on yourself. I use it sometimes as perfume.”
The recipes for these Thanksgiving cocktails are included in Nydick’s book, Clean Cocktails. You can purchase the book online or in a local bookstore.
