Marisa Teiner, nutritionist and founder of Feel Better Pops, came to #HipNJ to tell Maria Falzo about Alkazone.
Alkazone is a brand of alkaline water, drinking water filled with minerals that are good for the bones and immune system. Alkazone is bottled in Maryland and manufactured in Hackensack, NJ. Teiner is the nutritionist for the company, which has been in business for 25 years.
Alkazone contains calcium, magnesium and potassium. It also contains antioxidants like zinc and selenium (antioxidants aren’t typically found in alkaline water, according to Teiner).
Alkazone has high levels of pH. Most bottled water is acidic, according to Teiner. Acidic drinks – like coffee, soda and bottled water – remove important minerals from the body, making it easier for diseases to thrive. Water high in pH, on the other hand, restores lost minerals.
Falzo and Teiner performed a small experiment in the studio; they tested Alkazone and regular bottled water for pH using tester drops (usually people use litmus paper, but Teiner said that those aren’t very efficient when you’re testing for pH in water). The regular bottled water turned light-yellow (a 4.5 on the pH scale, which is below neutral (7)), and the Alkazone turned dark-purple (a 9.5 on the pH scale, which is above neutral).
Alkazone drinking water is sold in supermarkets like ShopRite and Fairway. Other products – such as mineral drops, pet water and filters – are also available for purchase under the Alkazone brand. To find store locations, or to learn more about Alkazone, visit their website.
